In today’s climate we hear a lot about diversity and inclusion, but how many of us have a true sense of what these terms truly mean? Well the Midland Inclusion Council is here to help educate you along your diversity and inclusion journey. Ferris State and George Washington University breaks this down in a simple and relevant way.
Diversity is the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political beliefs.
Inclusion is the active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity in people and in communities with which individuals might connect.
Analogies are sometimes easier to digest, so here’s what Cynt Marshall, CEO of the Dallas Mavericks had to say about D&I; “diversity is being invited to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance.” Reflect on the feeling that quote gave you and hopefully that resonates with you whenever you hear diversity and inclusion.
